For each participant that joins a research project (adds the research in the app), one participant slot is needed. The standard premium research license in m-Path includes 300 participant slots for one year. This is also the smallest possible license available.

Multiple projects
It is possible to distribute these participants over multiple projects within one research group or department. The standard premium license grants access to one master account. From this account it is possible to distribute participant slots over multiple other m-Path accounts. All these other m-Path accounts also get access to premium features.

To test a project, a researcher doesn’t need to use participant slots. This is explained here.
Buying more than 300 participant slots

The more participant slots included in one research license, the cheaper the price per participant slot. To give some examples with regards to the essential subscription (see https://m-path.io/landing/pricing.html):
- 300 participant slots per year costs 1599 Euro (VAT exclusive)
- 400 participant slots per year costs 2052 Euro (VAT exclusive)
- 600 participant slots per year costs 2958 Euro (VAT exclusive)
- 1000 participant slots per year cost 4441 Euro (VAT exclusive)

Buying too little participant slots
At any point in time, it is possible to add 100 (or a multiple of 100) participant slots to the yearly license. Adding 100 new participant slots costs 535 Euro for the essential subscription, 700 Euro for the standard subscription (VAT exclusive). This is more expensive compared to buying the participant slots immediately at the start of the project (because of administrative overhead). The new participant slots are valid until the end of the current yearly license of the researcher.
Buying too many participant slots
When your license is finished, it may be possible to recover some unused participant slots. The following rules are applied here:
- It is only possible to recover additionally bought participants. You cannot recover anything from the first 300 participants. The first 300 participants are included in the standard license. This rule is used as the price paid for the first 300 participants also include administrative overhead, support, and the basic cost of hosting our platform.
- From any additionally bought participant slots, you can recover 50% of the unused slots. You can only recover these participant slots if you still have a premium license.
Some examples to clarify:
- In the first year, a researcher has a premium license with 1000 participant slots. She only uses 500 participant slots in this year. The next year, she takes a new standard premium research license. She now gets 300 participant slots from the new license and recovers 250 participant slots (half of 500) from the previous license. She has a total of 550 available participant slots for the new year.
- In the first year, a researcher has a premium license with 300 participant slots. She only uses 200 participant slots in this year. The next year she cannot recover any participant slots as only additional participant slots can be recovered.
- In the first year, a researcher has a premium license with 400 participant slots, She only uses 200 participant slots in this year. She can only recover participant slots from participant slots on top of the first 300. In this case she can recover unused participant slots from the last 100 slots (400-300=100). She would recover 50 participant slots (half of 100) if she would take a new premium research license in the next year.
- In the first year. a researcher has a premium license with 500 participant slots. He only uses 100. In the next year he doesn’t take a new premium research license and cannot recover any participant slots.
Participant slots are only recovered if you notify m-Path within 100 days after the participant slots have expired. In the future a system will be made to apply these rules automatically.
Recovering excluded or non responding participant slots
Sometimes, participants need to be excluded or stops responding to questionnaires very early in the research project. In this case, the used slots can be partly recovered. More specifically, 50% of all participant slots that were used for participants that filled in 1 questionnaire or less, can be recovered.
For example, in a research project 100 participants may have filled in only 1 (or even less) questionnaires. In this case, m-Path can add 50 new participant slots to the subscription.
This can be done by sending a e-mail to m-Path and should be done in bulk (i.e. not for every participant seperately).
